What do the modem lights mean?

CURRENTLY SUPPORTED / RECOMMENDED MODEMS:

 Power

green a successful startup and good power.
off (off) check the power connection, and the push button switch on the back of the modem.
red a failed startup / modem failure.
orangeA solid orange light indicates bootloader active.

Ethernet

green connection to your router / network.
green-blink(blinking) indicates network activity.
off (off) a bad connection / disconnected cable.

DSL

green a good DSL signal.
green-blink(blinking) DSL sync is in progress / attempting to establish connection.
off (off) a bad connection to the phone line / no detectable DSL signal on the line.

Internet

green-blink(blinking) internet activity.
greenindicates connectivity without activity. In bridge mode (normal), this light may remain solid without indicating any fault.

 

OLDER / UN-SUPPORTED MODEMS

The modems shown below are no longer supported although they MAY continue to work. If they continue to operate after the network upgrades, they will likely operate at a less than ideal speed. By replacing these modems with the current model shown above, you will improve the speed and stability of your Internet connection.

ADSL Act   Flashes when there is internet activity.
ADSL Link   Should be lit when you have an ADSL connection.
LAN Link   Should be lit when the modem is plugged in to your computer.
Alert   Will light up if there is a problem with your ADSL connection.
Power   Indicates your modem is receiving power.

This modem requires a crossover ethernet cable.

Power   Indicates your modem is receiving power.
Status   Should be flashing once per second when the modem is operating
correctly. However, your modem may or may not be receiving an ADSL signal.
ADSL Link   Should be lit when you have an ADSL connection.
ADSL Act   Flashes when there is internet activity.
Ethernet Link   Should be lit when the modem is plugged in to your computer.
Ethernet Act   Flashes when there is activity from your computer.

This modem requires a straight through (Standard) ethernet cable.
