Shaw Service Disruption 2010.07.20 and ongoing...

In response to the recent Shaw service disruptions, we attempted to find out where / if they posted / maintained network status information / press releases, etc.

Unfortunately we were informed Shaw has no network status page – no place were service disruptions / network status are publicly viewable.

According to M. at Shaw support the notes are all in abbreviations but he could not decipher the meaning.

He could confirm there were still some ongoing issues, and could reference internal documentation detailing the events, but said most of the notes were in “engineering code / abbreviations” – he said “there were a LOT of names on the ticket, which attested to the severity of the problem” and they would be working to ensure it wouldn’t happen again.

"Cascading port failure leading to a router failure at the head end – the entire system required a manual restart." was one phrase he referred to.

The technician I spoke with said that Maple Ridge was an ongoing issue (I wonder if there are others) where the DHCP service (required by users without static IP) had to be “manually stabilized”.

We will post further details if / when they become available.
