Apple or Android? Mac or PC? Why would you chose one over the other?

In this age of an an increasing variety of options how do you make the choice that's right for you?

There are a number of points to consider when making a technology purchase - and many apply whether we are talking about a watch, a phone, or a computer!

Know your ecosystem!

Especially if you are trying something new, look to your family, friends, and co-workers. If you aren't already familiar with your options, consider who you might ask for help or advice? If those people have a wide variety of choices, you might be comfortable with anything in their experience. But if you chose a BlackBerry when all your friends have Androids or iPhones think about who you would ask for help? Consider compatibility - even if people know the device you want it might not be easily compatible with software they are using. Groups can share in various cloud systems, but it's not as easy for an iCloud user to share with someone's GoogleDrive.

Consider the value!

Apples (iPad, iPhone, iPod, iMac, etc.) often command a higher.

Choose your apps!

Each platform (the underlying combination of hardware and software) offer a unique set of strengths and challenges for application developers. Apps you use (applications) may not be the same across different platforms. Microsoft Office is considered by many to be the leading office application suite - but the differences across Apple, Android, and Windows implementations are vast.... Some apps may only be available on a single platform - others may only be fully functional on certain devices. If you are choosing a device to perform a task consider the software you need. Talk to peers, seek out demos and try to learn as much as you can before buying.

Ask questions until you are comfortable!

Anyone in hardware sales should be able to give you some advice considering a hardware purchase - you might have to try multiple vendors to find someone who can give you the information you need. Knowledgable people could disappear though - if you get the service you need from a local rep its good to keep your business with them. Without your support they won't be able to keep the people who could answer your questions available for the next time you do. When you need service, or just a quick answer to a question it's nice to know a person you can reach out to - even when they didn't have the lowest price on Black Friday.

Thanks for the question!
