Obama pushes FCC to support net-neutrality
With the absence of effective rules regarding net neutrality, Internet Service Providers could potentially restrict or slow down their customers’ access to certain sites. An ISP being allowed to do this without any transparency gives them the ability to charge a fee to certain websites so that their customers would be able to load their websites more quickly, it also lets ISPs slow down or deny access to the websites of their competitors. Obamas’ argument is that the Internet is a very important part of the economy and it should not be allowed to be monopolized and manipulated by ISPs. It is up to the FCC to make the rules and Obama does not have any official say in the matter. The FCC being an independent agency must lump Obamas’ submission with any other comments.
In the interests of fair and open markets we hope that Canada will follow suit and move more towards net neutrality.
