How to Disable SmartsScreen in Windows 8

SmartScreen is a filter that is built into your Windows 8 PC. It is intended to do background checks on files that are downloaded from the Internet, and to prevent you from accidentally downloading harmful files onto your computer. Sometimes it blocks you from downloading items that you know are safe, and when you need to download these files, it will be necessary for you to temporarily disable SmartScreen.

These are the steps to disabling SmartScreen:

1. Go to Metro by pushing the "Windows" button on your keyboard:

Now that you are in the Metro screen your applications are laid out in boxes similarly to the above picture. To search for a specific application in Metro, simply start typing the name of it.

2. Once you start typing, your search will show up in a search bar in the top right corner of the screen. Type "SmartScreen."

It is our recommendation that you keep SmartScreen enabled unless you need to disable it in order to download something important, for example; logmein, and that you enable it again once the download is complete.
