Resetting an Outlook 2010 contact cache

Occasionally, the cached email address associated with a particular contact can become invalid (for example, if the recipient's email address is changed or deleted). If this happens it will cause difficulty when you try to send an email to someone you have already created a cached contact for.

If you receive a message like this one when you try to send an email to someone you may be experiencing an issue with your cached contact information.

The solution is to reset the local cache in Outlook for that contact.

Here are the steps to reset a single local contact cache:

  1. Start a new e-mail.

  2. Start typing the e-mail address of the contact.

  3. Find the Bad address and highlight it. (using arrow keys)

  4. When BAD one is highlighted press the DELETE key.

  5. Then correct the address/contact in the address/contacts book.

  6. Create a new message

  7. Start typing the contact's name

  8. Press Ctrl+K. This checks the address/contacts book.

  9. Complete sending the message to save or update the cache.

Administrators can also force a reset of the entire Offline Address Book to update all contacts. A guide for that is here.
