How to set up a POP3 account in Outlook Express
1. To setup a new account in Outlook Express, click on the Tools menu in the upper left hand corner of Outlook express.
Click on "Accounts...".
2. Click on Add and then Mail.
3. Enter your Display Name, FIRST LAST (COMPANY) (e.g. "John Doe (Example)). This is the name used in the “from” field in emails. It will be the name people see when they receive an email from you or your company. The display name can also be used to reinforce company branding, but the it must be kept short to avoid being truncated on a screen.
Click Next.
4. Enter your Full email address: first.last@example.com
Click Next.
5. Select POP3 as your server.
Next, enter your server information. Both should follow PIM.YOURDOMAIN, using your domain name.
Click Next.
6. Enter your account name, which is your full email address: first.last@example.com. Outlook will assume your account name is only part of your email address but you must fill in your full email address.
Next, your password, which is case sensitive.
Click Next.
Despite Outlook Express noting the setup is finished, you need to complete a few more steps for your email to be fully operational. |
Click Finish.
8. After clicking Finish, a new screen will open titled Internet Accounts. Highlight the account you just created, PIM.YOURDOMAIN, and click Properties.
9. In the Properties box, click to the tab "Servers". You will see the information you entered previously.
Under Outgoing Mail Server, select "My server requires authentication". |
Click the Advanced tab within the same window.
If you fail to change this setting may prevent email from sending with some ISPs. This setting must be changed to comply with firewalls and ISPs.
Also, changing this setting enables email clients on notebook computers to work from any location with any Internet provider. |
Click ok.
11. You have completed the POP3 account setup. Click Finished.To determine if your setup was completed correctly, send an email to a friend. If your friend receives the email you've correctly set up your email account.
