How to set up an Exchange account in Outlook 2003, with previous set ups.

The following demonstrates how to set up an Exchange Account in Outlook 2003 when you've previously used Outlook for other email accounts.

1. To set up your Exchange Account, close your Outlook window and open the computer's Control Panel. To open your control panel click Start, Control Panel. In the upper left hand corner of the Control Panel Window, check to see if your Control Panel is in Classic View or Control Panel Home. If your computer's Control Panel is not already in Classic View, select Classic View.

Click and open the Mail icon.

2.  Click on Email Accounts... in the Mail Setup - Outlook window.

3. Select Add a new email account.

Click Next.

4. Select Microsoft Exchange Server.

Click Next.

5. Enter the SHORT NAME of your server and your USERNAME as given when you set up your Exchange Account

In order to correctly set up your Exchange Account you must click More Settings before continuing the set up wizard.

6.  After clicking More Settings, in the Microsoft Exchange Server window, select the Connection tab.

Under Exchange over the Internet select Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP.

Click on Exchange Proxy Settings.

7. Duplicate the settings in the Exchange Proxy Settings to the window below.

Enter OWA.BITBLOCK.NET under Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange:

Select Connect using SSL only.

Select Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with SSL

Enter MSSTD:OWA.BITBLOCK.NET under Principal name for proxy server:

Select On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP

Select On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP

Click OK

8. Click on the Remote Mail tab in the Microsoft Exchange Server window.

Select Retrieve items that meet the follow conditions. You will not need to change the conditions.

Click OK.

9. Select Check Name with your previously entered information left as is.

This will verify your Exchange Account.

10. Enter your Exchange Account USERNAME and PASSWORD as given when required.

Click OK.

11. If your Microsoft Exchange Server and User Name are underlined, you have correctly completed the set up to this point. The underline indicates your account has been verified.

If your information is not underlined you can not proceed with the set up. Try clicking Check Name again and re-entering your User Name and Password. If your account fails to verify again, go back and check to make you entered all information correctly.

If your account fails to verify again please contact customer care for assistance.

Click Next once your account has been verified.

12.  Click  Yes.

You will change this later in the set up.

13. Click Finish.

Despite the Outlook wizard indicating that you set up is complete, you need to continue with the set up process for your Exchange Account to work properly.

14. Do not close the Mail Setup - Outlook window, instead click Email Accounts... again.

If you accidentally closed this window, go back to step 1 to open it again.

15. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts.

Click Next.

16. Select your Microsoft Exchange Server account.

In the lower left corner of the window, under Deliver new e-mail to the following location, click on the arrow to select your Exchange mail. MAILBOX - FIRST LAST (COMPANY).

If left on Personal Folders your email will be downloaded to your local computer and not accessible through Outlook Web Access (OWA).

Click Finish.

17. This window confirms that you changed your email to be delivered into your Exchange Mailbox.

Click OK.

19. Open up your Outlook.

Click to the Contacts tab in the lower left corner.

In the upper right corner, right click on Contacts in the My Contacts section.

Select New Folder.

20. Create a New Folder by entering MY CONTACTS into the Name field.

Click OK.

21. Select the Address Book icon in Outlook tool bar.

If you can not find this icon you can also access the Address Book by clicking the Tools menu, then Address Book.

22. Select Tools, Options.. in the Address Book Window.

23. Change the Show this address list first to MY CONTACTS.

Change Keep personal addresses in: to MY CONTACTS.

In the box labeled, When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order:, select MY CONTACTS  and move to the top of the list, using the up arrow on the right. Also, select Global Address List and click Remove.

Click OK.

Your Exchange Account set up is complete.
