How to set up an Exchange account in Outlook 2007 with RPC over HTTP (NEW SET UP)

These instructions assume that your operating system is Windows Vista (Home or Pro) and that you have successfully installed Microsoft Office 2007 or at least Microsoft Outlook 2007. The instructions for setting up an Exchange account with the Outlook 2007 client will be identical for XP users. Only the appearance of the control panel, windows and buttons will be different.

When setting up a new user account in Outlook 2007 for the first time it's possible to follow the account wizard within Outlook. After the first run (depending on options set) a Mail icon may appear under Control Panel. If you are unable to use this version due to an error that complains about Outlook running, please try the instructions found here How To set up an Exchange account in Outlook 2007 with RPC over HTTP (EXISTING SETUP) After creating a new user account on your computer or while running Outlook 2007 for the first time you will be prompted automatically to configure an email account.

1.  To start this process, clicck the Vista Pearl (the Start button) and run Microsoft Office Outlook. If the icon is not located as shown, find it under "All Programs".

2. Wait while the program launches.When prompted, press Next.

3. Leave the default "Yes", and press Next.

4. Enter your user information First and Last name, email address, and password. It is necessary to type in the password a second time as this alows outlook to confirm if it was typed correctly. Select the checkbox 'Manually configure server settings or addiional server types' This will grey out all the fields where you have entered information. Click Next.

5. Select "Microsoft Exchange Server" and press Next.

6. Enter the server short name ("es2" unless instructed otherwise), and enter your user name (normally of the form XXX-username where XXX is a prefix associated with your company, or just bbXXXXXXXXXX where XXXXXXXXXX is the phone number of a blackberry device) and then press "More Settings". These settings are account specific if you do not have the exact settings contact support.

7.Ignore any error messages, press Cancel if prompted to confirm your user name. Select the Connection tab, check "Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP", and click "Exchange Proxy Settings".

8. Complete the URL and Server Name fields, and check the check boxes as shown, then press OK.

9. Press OK on the connection tab.

10. Acknowlege the restart requirement by pressing OK.

11. Press the "Check Name" button.

Wait while Outlook contacts the Exchange server and validates your account. If you are prompted with this form, it may be an indication that you have not installed the SSL certificate for the Outlook Web Access site.

If you are repeating set up later, you may have to contact support to have us republish your username if this setup does not complete. Try repeating the "Check Name" before giving up. If it doesn't continue, press cancel, and contact support.

If all goes well and outlook can reach out and 'shake hands' with the server to confirm the information you have entered you will be prompted for a username and password at this point.  Enter your username (as before) prefixed with "HTS\" and the password you were provided then press OK. If you change this password (which you should do at least initially), you will have to use your new password, follow the instructions here (internal link) for information on changing your password. You may be prompted for this username and password several more times and will always be prompted at startup. Repeat the password as required.

If your server name and username aren't underlined after you enter the username and password, you may have to enter the full server name, not just the short name - this will have been provided to you when setting up your account. This information may change from time to time as we update hardware and may contain company specific information, if you don't have this information contact support. If necessary enter the required information and click "Check Name" again.

12. Your account should now appear underlined - don't be alarmed that the username has changed formatting back to Your Name(underlined). Press OK. Enter the password again if prompted.

13. This will take you back to the screen where you had originally entered the server name and the user name the servername will have changed to the full server name and the username will have changed to Your Name, both will be underlined. Click 'Next'

14. Press Finish.

15. Wait while Outlook downloads information from your account.

If prompted, confirm your name and initials. This is only required if this user has not run ANY Microsoft Office application since installation. Your initials are used to track changes in a variety of Microsoft Office program. Confirm or edit the information and press OK.

Congratulations, the set up procedure is complete!
