Making A Support Request Connection With VNC

When you are running UltraVNC, you can tell by checking your tray (located by the clock) for the VNC icon. If you hover the mouse over this icon, it will show you the IP address of the machine you are using:

Remember that this address is your private machine IP unless you are connected directly to the Internet without a firewall (NOT RECOMMENDED) but can be used to connect to your computer for remote admin if firewall changes have been made.

If you do not see the icon check for hidden icons by clicking on the blue ball with the "<" symbol on it. If you still can't find it, start the server manually by locating it in the Start menu and clicking on it:

While a connection is in use, the desktop wallpaper disappears (default settings - done for efficiency) and the icon changes color to green:

To see the remote admin users connected to your computer, right-click the UltraVNC icon and click "List All Clients":

i06

While viewing the client list, you can select a client and click "Chat with Client" to open a simple chat window for communication with the remote support agent:

i07

Simply type in the lower window and press ENTER or click Send to tranmit your messages. Incoming messages display automatically as they are received:

i08

To force the end of a remote support session, right-click the UltraVNC icon and select "Kill All Clients":

i09

If desired, you can shutdown the UltraVNC server by right-clicking the UltraVNC icon and selecting Close VNC:

Note that closing UltraVNC will disable unattended remote administration and require a manual restart of the service prior to starting a remote assistance session, however if UltraVNC is installed as a service, it will be automatically restarted after the next reboot.
