How do I transfer calls on Yealink phones?

There are two types of transfers:

  • Attended - You call the person to whom you are transferring the call and speak to them before completing the transfer.

  • Blind - You transfer the call without speaking to the other party to which you are transferring the call.

On Yealink phones, the transferring party's call display will be shown to the recipient if an Attended transfer is used. Cisco phones have an option to present an Attended transfer with the original caller's Caller ID.

 

About transfer mode:

  • When dialing your transfer manually (not using a Directory entry, or DSS key) you can chose your transfer mode at dial time.
  • If you are using DSS keys (side car, or speed dials on the phone itself) you need to decide in advance if those buttons should operate in Attended or Blind transfer mode. 
  • Directory entries or recently dialed history numbers will always be treated as attended transfers.

If you need to pass call display while performing an attended transfer, this can be done using the following procedure. Note, the DSS keys should be in Blind transfer mode and then:

  1. Place the caller on hold.
  2. Use the DSS key to call the recipient and announce the caller.
  3. End the call to the recipient.
  4. Resume the call on hold.
  5. Press Transfer.
  6. Optionally dial a * if you want to transfer the caller to voicemail directly
  7. Press the DSS key to complete the transfer.

If the DSS keys are in attended transfer mode, the call display of the person operating the transfer will be shown to the recipient.

Performing an Attended Transfer

  1. During an active call, or with a call on hold, press Transfer.

  2. Either enter the number to which you want to transfer the call; or press Directory and choose a number from the Personal Address Book, or use your recent History.

  3. Press Dial or wait a few seconds. The call is placed on hold and a line is opened to dial the number.

  4. Then do one of the following:

  • To complete the transfer without speaking to the receiving party, press Transfer after the call begins to ring and hang up.

  • If you misdial, press the End Call button, then press the Resume button, and try again.

  • To transfer after speaking privately to the other person, press Transfer at any time during the conversation.

If your dialing times out the caller will be placed on hold. You can either resume the call and press transfer again, or simply press transfer but note that IF you press transfer while the call is on hold you can NOT make the transfer blind.

 

Performing an Unattended (Blind) Transfer

  1. During an active call, press Transfer.

  2. Enter the number to which you want to transfer the call to and press Transfer again.

  3. If you have DSS keys programmed, and the transfer mode is Blind, you can press a DSS key as an alternative to dialing the recipient manually. Simply press the button of the number you wish to transfer to.

The call is then transferred with no further action required on your part.

 

Performing an Unattended (Blind) Transfer to Voicemail

This is the same as a blind transfer (above) - simply prefix the destination extension with a * to reach the voicemail without ringing the extension first. A blind transfer is preferred when transffering to voicemail to avoid the caller missing the first second of the voicemail greeting that might be lost during an attended transfer.

There is no way to use DSS keys to perform a Blind transfer to voicemail if the DSS Transfer Mode is set to Attended. In that case, you must manually dial the extension to perform a Blind transfer. If you want to use DSS keys in attended mode and want to transfer to voicemail, press the Transfer as quick as possible to minimize the caller missing any part of the greeting.
