How To Tell If Your Version Of Windows Is 32-bit Or 64-bit

It's important to know what version of Windows you are running when you install software (programs). This guide will show you how to determine if your version of Windows is 32 or 64 bit.

  1. Open the start menu.

  2. Right click Computer (or My Computer) and select properties from the bottom of the options menu.

  3. This window will open, underneath the "System" sub-section (circled in red), beside "System Type" (also circled in red) it will say whether the version of Windows you are running is a 32-bit or a 64-bit.

    If there is no "x64" indication in Windows XP, then your computer is 32-bit.
