How to set up Exchange on Android

Every cell phone operating system has a different method of setting up Microsoft Exchange. Different types of Androids also vary, this setup is a very generic type of setup and can be used as a general guide to setting up Microsoft Exchange on an android.

1. To get started, navigate to "set up email," or something to that effect. Many androids have a slightly different process for navigating to this screen, so some poking around might be required. Settings are often accessed by swiping down from the top and looking for a settings icon - sometimes a gear or similar icon.

2. Once you get to the following screen, or your phones equivalent, enter your email and password, and select "manual setup."

*"Show password" lets you see what you have typed in the password box so that you can check for mistakes.

**Checking the "Send email from this account by default" box will make the email you have selected your main email for the device. If you use other email accounts you may want to consider which one you would like to make your default account.

3. If you are setting up a Microsoft Exchange account, choose "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync."

4. Under the "domain\username" option, type in your domain and user name. Usually your username is a shortened version of your company name, a hyphen, and your first name. Be sure to check the "Use secure connection (SSL)" box.

5. Select "Always Show" and "OK."

6. It will begin checking incoming server settings, cancel this.

7. The message in the following image will appear and ask you if you would like to continue, press "OK."

8. Here you will have a long screen where you can choose your Microsoft Exchange server settings. Most of these options should already be filled out, but you can change them depending on what your preferences are. Be sure to select "sync email" (circled in red) so that you will receive all of your emails on your phone. There will also be a box where you can choose an amount of time you wish to have your email synchronized for, the longer the time period the more data must be downloaded, the usual amount of time a person chooses is 2 weeks but what works for you is completely dependent on your needs. Selecting

"Automatically download attachments when connected to Wi-Fi" will allow background downloading of attached content so that they open quicker when you access them.Once you have made the selections you would like, select "next."

*"Sync SMS" will make it so all of your text messages will sync to your inbox as well, whether you want this depends on your preference, some people find this annoying, while others like to have everything accessible in one place.

9. These steps should set up your Microsoft Exchange account on your android phone. If you need extra assistance feel free to contact us by phone or email.
