Closing a Program in Windows 8

One of the first obsticles people face when learning how to use Windows 8 effectively is closing Metro applications. Metro applications do not have an "x" button at the top right of the screen like applications have in previous versions of Windows.

There are many ways to close programs in Windows 8, but this method is one of the most straight forward. Closing a program can be done in two easy steps:

1. While in a program, such as a webpage; right click anywhere (as long as it is blank space with no other function).

2. A bar will popup at the bottom of the page, here you will see your open programs. To close one of them select the "x" at the bottom right corner of the icon that represents the page you would like to close.

You can also close an application by moving your mouse to the top left corner of your screen. Here you will get a menu bar across the left side of the screen. This is where you can switch to other applications while keeping other applications running in the background. If you do not currently have the application enlarged, you may close it on this screen, but if it is the tab that you currently have open you must close it by following steps one and two.
