Set Up POP3 Email In Outlook 2010

This guide will walk you through adding a POP3 account in Outlook 2010. This guide applies to Outlook 2013 as well, as the steps are identical.

This guide assumes that there is an existing account set up in Outlook.

1. Select the "File" tab and select the "Info" section. Click on "Account Setting" and select "Account Settings" in the drop down menu that appears.

2. In the "E-mail" tab in the Account Settings window, click "New" in the menu under the tabs.

3. Select "E-mail Account". Click "Next".

4. Select "Manually configure server settings or additional server types". Click "Next".

5. Select "Internet E-mail". Click "Next".

6. Enter the following information:

  • Your Name: Anything you would like to call it.
  • E-mail Address: Your given email - name@domain.com
  • Account Type: POP3 (BitBlock does not provide IMAP email services)
  • Incoming Mail Server: pim.yourdomain (eg. pim.bitblock.com)
  • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): pim.yourdomain
  • User Name: Your given email
  • Password: Your email password

Select "Remember Password" if you want Outlook to remember your email password (You can also check this when you enter your login information when you start Outlook). If you check "Test Account Setting by clicking the Next button", the account setup will attempt to authenticate the account before finishing the setup. Do not click the "Test Account Settings" button before the next steps, as it will fail.

You can select "Existing Outlook Data File" if this is a migration or you have an archive you would like to use as a base for this new account, otherwise select "New Outlook Data File" to create a new Data File.

When the settings here are filled out, click "More Settings".

7. Select the "Outgoing Server" tab and make sure to check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Choose "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".

8. Now go to the "Advanced" tab. Change the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port to "587" from the default "25". Make sure that "Leave a copy of messages on the server" is not checked. BitBlock does not include server side storage with our POP3 email accounts. Click "Next".

9. Again, make sure that "Test Account Settings by clicking the Next button" is checked, then click "Next".

10. You will see another window come up that shows the details of the account test. Allow this to finish then click "Close".

11. Click "Finish".

You have now successfully added a POP3 account in Outlook. The new account will appear in the left-hand panel below any other mailboxes that have been added to the profile.
