What is Smart Hosting?

Smart Hosting is a public proxy for organizations who want to run their own mail server in-house.

When sending, with an in-house mail server, sometimes their mail is viewed by others as likely spam because it comes from a “subscriber IP” – not a “hosting IP.” By having a Smart Host to relay to, organizations can improve the reputation of mail they send.

When receiving, sometimes the volume of mail received can pose an issue for people using a single Internet connection. If your connection or power goes out, your clients will find out. Denial of service attacks and other probing for security weaknesses put your server and other computers on your network at risk. With a Smart Host, incoming mail is delivered to our FlexMail system, scanned for viruses, optionally scanned and scored for spam, and then forwarded to your mail server serially (one after the other) reducing spikes in Internet load and improving the safety of your server and network.
